Seda Havanese and Havana Silk Dogs

BREEDER RESPONSIBILITIES

You may have started researching various breeds and have made your decision to adopt a Havanese. You may believe the hardest part is over, however it's just beginning. It's equally important to research various breeders to find the one that is right for you. But where do you start and what do you look for?

Most responsible purebred breeders are also concientious dog owners. Often they will ask you several questions to determine if you understand the commitment necessary in being owned by a Havanese. Since some breeders, such as Seda Havanese, have a written lifetime guarantee so we may take a little longer to ensure that we are putting one of our pups in the best home possible.

As a potential owner, this is also an opportunity for you to develop confidence that the breeder you are dealing with will be there to offer assistance, advice or remain true to their word. So what should you expect?

AS A RESPONSIBLE BREEDER WE WILL

  • Show an interest in you and your lifestyle. Often you'll be asked to complete a questionnaire as part of our due diligence.
  • Ask why you are interested in owning a dog and why you choose the Havanese breed. We will likely ask about the types of activities you want to participate in with your dog.
  • Give you information about the breed you may not have already known including breed specific health concerns.
  • Encourage you to tour the kennel area or give you a means to make long distance inquiries through web sites, video clips, photos, etc so you can evaluate the dogs and their care to date.
  • Take pride in our  kennel's appearance and a keen interest in the care of our pups.
  • Have a genuine interest in our own dogs as well as the breed.
  • Proudly volunteer pedigree, registration papers, and health certificates for the pup and it's parents.
  • Have experience in handling, training, showring, agility and therapy  activities with our Havanese.
  • Offer advice about nutrition and training suggestions when asked.
  • Remain available throughout the life of the dog.
  •
